Planning a quick trip to Hong Kong? Even with just 48 hours, you can experience so much of what makes this city unforgettable. The energy, the food, the views, and the culture. Here’s how to make the most of it, especially if it’s your first time:
Day 1: Scenic Views & Cultural Icons
1- 🚠 Ngong Ping Cable Car
Kickstart your Hong Kong adventure with a ride on the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car. It’s about an hour from Central Hong Kong, but it’s super easy to get there by MTR (subway) and a short walk. The cable car ride itself is absolutely breathtaking — you’ll glide over lush mountains, the sea, and even spot the airport in the distance. A true must-do experience!
2- Ngong Ping Village & The Big Buddha
Once you arrive, explore Ngong Ping Village and visit the iconic Tian Tan Buddha (a.k.a. the Big Buddha). Climb the 268 steps to get up close. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the surrounding mountains and temples are just stunning.

3- The Peak Tram & Free Observation Deck
Later in the afternoon, head back to Hong Kong Island and ride the famous Peak Tram. This historic funicular railway takes you up to Victoria Peak for unbeatable skyline views.
Pro tip: Skip the paid Sky Terrace and head to the Free Observation Deck at Peak Galleria, you’ll still get jaw-dropping panoramic views without spending a cent!
Day 2: City Adventures & Hidden Gems
1- 🚃 Ride the Double-Decker Trams
Start your second day like a local — hop on a “ding ding” (Hong Kong’s charming double-decker trams). Especially around Central, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay, it’s a nostalgic, slow-paced, and super cheap way to explore the city while watching Hong Kong life unfold around you.
2-🚶♀️ Walk and Explore
Hong Kong is a city that rewards wandering. Spend your morning strolling through Central’s hidden alleys, popping into quirky cafes, visiting the historic Man Mo Temple, and browsing the antique shops along Hollywood Road. Later, head to Mong Kok to experience the buzzing atmosphere of its famous street markets — Ladies’ Market and Temple Street Night Market are a must, especially when they come alive in the evenings with neon lights, food stalls, and local energy.
3-⛴️ Take the Star Ferry
No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a ride on the historic Star Ferry. For just a few Hong Kong dollars, you can glide across Victoria Harbour, with incredible views of the skyline on both sides. It’s especially magical around sunset when the city lights start to twinkle!
