Only got a day in Milan? Don’t worry, this city knows how to impress fast. From iconic landmarks to stylish spots and delicious bites, here’s how to make the most of 24 unforgettable hours in Milan.

Morning: Art and Architecture with a View

Start your day at the Museo del Novecento, one of Milan’s most underrated gems. Entry is just €5, and apart from its impressive collection of 20th-century Italian art, it offers one of the best panoramic views of the Duomo di Milano through its massive arched windows. The early light hits the cathedral beautifully, perfect for photos.

Next, make your way to the Duomo itself. It’s not just Milan’s most famous landmark, it’s one of the most breathtaking cathedrals in the world. Skip the line if you can and head straight to the rooftop terrace, 65 meters above the piazza. The sweeping views of the city skyline and the close-up look at the Duomo’s 135 spires and marble statues are unforgettable.

Step down into Piazza del Duomo, the city’s lively central square. Street performers, photographers, and stylish locals create the perfect Milanese buzz.

Lunch with a View

For lunch, I stopped at Maio Restaurant, mainly for the view  and let’s be honest, that Duomo backdrop is hard to beat. While the pasta wasn’t anything special (definitely not the best I’ve had in Italy), the setting more than made up for it. If you’re after quality pasta, I’d recommend Pasta d’Autore,  a cozy spot with truly delicious handmade dishes.

Afternoon: Culture and Caffeine

Post-lunch, take a stroll through the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy’s oldest shopping arcade and a true work of architectural art. Snap a photo under the soaring glass dome and make a wish by spinning on the famous bull mosaic with your heel.

Just a few minutes’ walk away is the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, Milan’s answer to a coffee temple. It’s unlike any Starbucks you’ve seen before: think brass pipes, a working roastery, a cocktail bar, and even Italian pastries. Grab a tiramisu and cold brew and take a moment to recharge.

Then head to Castello Sforzesco, a massive 15th-century fortress that once housed the Dukes of Milan. You can wander the courtyards for free, or explore the museums inside if you have time. Behind the castle lies Parco Sempione, a peaceful green space perfect for a quick stroll or rest.

Evening: Aperitivo and Canalside Vibes

As the sun sets, make your way back toward the Duomo and head upstairs to Terrazza Aperol. Sip on a classic Aperol Spritz and enjoy the golden hour views of the cathedral as it glows in the evening light.

Wrap up your day with a visit to Navigli, Milan’s atmospheric canal district. Lined with bars, cafés, vintage shops, and art studios, it’s the perfect place to enjoy aperitivo or a late dinner. Grab a table by the water, order some small plates or a pizza, and soak in the city’s laid-back charm.

And there you have it, 24 hours in Milan, filled with art, history, espresso, and style. Short on time, big on memories.
